A school visit to the city of Houston, Tx was made from September 18 to 21 by some of our Ox School students. Providing them with a unique opportunity to explore science, history and art, health and sports in an interactive and engaging way. Such visits not only enhance classroom learning but also inspire students to connect with the world around them.
Day 1 - Visit to Minute Maid Stadium: The students had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the facilities and were informed about the history of the stadium, the manufacturing process of bats and baseballs, as well as general information about game broadcasts and the press room. They also received an invitation to one of the Houston Astros' home games.
The students then visited the Health Museum, where they explored important aspects of health, medical sciences, and the human body. They had the opportunity to experiment in the laboratory with blood typing stations and the study of skin cells, all under the guidance of museum educators.
In the second part of the day, the students toured the Johnson Space Center through the NASA Tram Tour, where they were able to visit the massive Saturn V rocket and explore various areas of the workplace, such as the Historic Mission Control and the International Space Station Mission Control. Additionally, they had the opportunity to meet astronaut Mark Polansky, who shared his experience over the course of three space missions.
Day 2: During a second visit to NASA, the students participated in various workshops on materials, robotics, and chemical reactions. They were also invited to two panels, with local schools, where they listened to Latino NASA staff members share their experiences collaborating in various fields, such as design, architecture, business, and exploration, among others.
In the last part of day 2 students had the opportunity to attend one of the Houston Astros' home games and enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show.
Day 3: During their visit to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the students explored the Morian Hall of Paleontology and had a guided tour where they learned about prehistoric creatures and the way they survived in prehistoric times. They also visited an amazing exhibit at the Hall of Ancient Egypt in which they learned about Egyptian culture, writings, and mummification process. They also explored energy production in Houston, ecology and wildlife in the U.S. , not to mention the stunning exhibition of precious jewels and rare stones with extraordinary structures. Students also visited the Science area which showcases a wide variety of physics and chemistry models where students could experiment with them.
